The message "Drum Error, Slide the Green Tab on the Drum Unit" appears when the corona wire of the drum unit is to be cleaned. What to do ?

  • Clean the corona wire inside the drum unit for all four colors.
  • Lift the top cover with the recessed handle in the center until you hear a click.

NOTE: The top cover must be fully open before attempting to remove or install consumables. Failure to fully open the top cover may make it difficult to install or remove supplies or damage the unit.

  • Remove the four drum and toner cartridge assemblies by grasping the center of the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly and pulling up. Be sure to place the assemblies on a piece of disposable paper in the event of a spill or toner spill.
  • On each assembly, locate the green tab at the top, on the left. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab from right to left and from left to right several times. Be sure to return the green tab to the original position before reinstalling the assemblies into the machine. If you do not return the green tab to its original position, you may get a vertical band on the printed pages.

NOTE: Perform this step for all four drum / toner assemblies.

  • Reinstall the drum unit and the toner cartridges by sliding them in the machine one after the other. Make sure that the color of the toner cartridge matches the same color label on the device.
  • Close the top cover of the machine. You will hear a loud click when the top cover is closed.
  • If the message continues to appear and your machine is under warranty, you can locate a Brother Authorized Service Center (ASC) in your area.
  • You can also contact Brother Customer Service from Monday to Friday, except holidays.
  • If your machine is out of warranty, you can locate an authorized Brother service center using the information above.
  •  If the problem persists, the drum unit indicates that it needs to be replaced, you can follow the steps below to reset the meter; however, please replace the drum unit as soon as you notice a drop in quality on the printed pages.

When you replace a drum unit with a new one, you must reset the drum counter by following these steps:

  • Press Menu => Machine Info. Reset menu => Reset menu.
  • Press the up or down arrow key to choose the color of the drum you have replaced. Press OK.
  • Press 1 to reset the counter of the drum unit.
  • Press Stop / Exit.
