COVER 5% OF PAGE - WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?

Whether you're looking to buy a new printer or simply reduce your printing costs, it's worth considering the capacity of your ink or toner cartridges.

Each printer ink or toner cartridge you buy will have a measured capacity in pages, which is called a page yield.

What does "page yield" or "capacity" mean?

The page yield is an indication of the number of pages your cartridge will print. For example, the HP Q2612A cartridge has a yield of 2000 or 2k pages. This means that this toner cartridge will print 2000 pages at 5% coverage of a page.

What does 5% coverage mean and where does it come from?

The 5% coverage of an A4 page is what the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has calculated as an average business letter. Assuming you print a business letter with an average coverage of 5%, you would be able to print the 2000 pages.

How to get the most out of your cartridge

Ok, so you now know how much toner or ink cartridge you get per page and what we mean by 5% coverage, so how do you make sure you get the most out of your cartridge?

Well, there are a lot of different small factors to consider when trying to achieve the average ISO 5% coverage, and get the most out of your cartridge.

Here are my best tips:

- Type of font that you use; a simple font change can give you more words.

- The size of your font; reducing the size of your font can give you more words.

- Graphics, images or simple lines use a lot of ink, ask yourself if you really need to print an image.

- The width of the border of your page; using a smaller border would increase the amount of ink you would use per page.

- Did you know that changing Calibri to your font will automatically save you money?

- Comparing a group of popular fonts between sizes 9 to 12, Calibri gave you a higher word count for your 5% coverage than Arial, Comic Sans, Tahoma and Times New Roman.

to summarize

The page yield of your toner has been created for guidance and nothing more, by the ISO as a reseller, it is a standard that we must respect but we must remember to make the most of our cartridge .
